Not only I did backpacking with my sister and cousin, but we basically put forth our best foot forward into taking risks in being as ‘divergent’ as we can be (Move over, Shailene Woodley..)
Thus, I am proud to share the snaps below and videos that we collected during out trip. I’d say this is one of our best, considering this is our first backpacking adventure:
Parthenon? Nah. I’m in the Temple of Leah. Dubbed as Cebu’s Taj Mahal, it is one of the sweetest thing I have ever heard. It served as a grand gesture of endless love from a husband to his late wife.
As beautiful as this place can be, it also has drawbacks as there is only one option to reach this heavenly place..and it is to ride through the famous “habal–habal” (riding at the back of motorcycles).
There are cabs, but, if you are backpackers like us, then you wouldn’t really consider it as an option. And i have to say, I am glad we chose to ride that one. It is one experience we have to tick off our bucketlists. The roads going to the temple is zigzagged, and even the locals call the road ‘stairway to heaven‘. Not entirely exciting at first. The entire ride is bumpy, and the noisy, as i keep on shouting whenever the driver keeps on driving the motorcycle near the edge of the cliff.
This oriental looking temple is named Taoist temple. It is also very popular in Cebu, as it reminds you of China, Taiwan or Korea.
The interior and exterior of the temple are very serene and tranquil, it relaxes every nerve of your body. Just make sure to prepare your leg joints for a hundred steps of climbing the stairs as there are a lot of stairs to be climbed in this one. But I tell you, it is worth it.
I cannot remember how much it is priced per person, but I think it is around 1k. Then you are also going to sign a waiver that the company bears no responsibility just in case of emergencies (too much of being risk takers 😅).
Anyway, as you might have guessed, we still we went for it and boy, we did not regret it. We did the walked the edges of the platform and despite the trembles and tensions, we managed to fully drink in the sights of the city and appreciate the skyline in the middle of that afternoon.
As fun and amusing as it could be, I hope that this could be removed from the ‘tourist-y’ and ‘must-see’ activities in Cebu moving forward. As a supporter of animal rights, I strongly recommend other tourists to find another itinerary or activity instead of this one, in order to protect these gentle giants of Oslob, Cebu.
Note: If you do want to really catch a glimpse of these gentle creatures, then I suggest you prepare to take a very early bus going to Oslob. Take note that we have woken up on wee hours of the morning to catch around 3am bus going to Oslob as far as I remember. When we arrived there, it was almost 6am and there is still approximately at least an hour of waiting for each bancas to be loaded to see the whale sharks. For complete reference of bus schedules, you may check here as I do remember alighting a bus somewhere in the Cebu South bus terminal.
• Next is we trekked the Mount Labalasan , or most commonly known as Osmeña Peak, the highest peak in Cebu and found it very breath taking. Even though we only trekked the summit part because majority of the foot of the mountain is already a paved highway road for vehicles, it did not stop us to admire the natural scenic beauty of the area.
We also met a guide (we forgot the name) who took superb pictures of us as you can see in the snaps. Naturally, the trail is easy and short but the guide is still a must if you don’t want to get lost and if it is your first time.
Last and not the least, my favorite itinerary in Cebu, is the Kawasan Falls. It has refreshing falls, Tarzan swings and even canyons you can jump for adventure!
There are different heights for canyoneering, and i remember jumping to the 45 ft and 40ft ones. The above video showed myself scaredy cat at first for the 45ft jump but still went for it. And i must say, it’s a blast! i want to do it again! However, i got bruises all over my thighs after, all because i did not get the right posture of jumping (must be straight bodied and not bended). My, did i get a huge scolding from my parents after i uploaded that one, haha 😅
The total entrace fee we paid for Oslob whale watching and Kawasan Falls adventure combined is around Php 1,600.00. I say not bad for a once in a life time experience, though it is always better to check the current rates now.
Overall, I must say this Cebu trip is one for the books. Definitely a must – see for every traveler before going out of the country and experience a one of a kind adventure that is surely to be treasured.

~Note: For our accommodation, we booked an airbnb through Agoda. An every traveler’s must have, you can find a selection of cheapest to luxurious kinds of accommodations in this site. Make sure though that you find one that offers free breakfast! Since we are always on a hurry, we decided not to opt for one and preferred to just grab whatever is available in the nearest stores. Afterwards, we just indulge during lunch times or dinner times. It depends on what kind of traveler you are though, and your eating metabolism, of course.
